It is possible to re-assess ACS Qualifications up to maximum of 6 months before the expiry date on the certificate. If you decide to take this route you must inform Rita or Tracy that you wish to do so at the booking stage. Once you have completed your re-assessment your new expiry date will be five years from the expiry date of your existing ACS certificate
If your ACS certificates expire then you are suspended from the Gas Safe Register and not allowed to work on gas until you undertake and pass your re-assessment.
If your certificates have expired you are allowed to sit the re-assessment up to 12 months after the expiry date. If you allow more than 12 months to elapse then you must undertake all of the initial assessments again.
After you have completed your assessments the paperwork is sent for external verification by the Certification Board .Under normal circumstances it could take up to four weeks for your new certificates to arrive at your home address. However, it is possible to send your paperwork “Fast-track” which will ensure your certificates are with you within five working days. There is an extra cost for this service and Rita or Tracy must be advised of this requirement at the booking stage.
An experienced Gas Engineer who is undertaking a Re-assessment for CCN1 should be able to finish the re-assessment comfortably in 2 days. An engineer undertaking Initial Assessment forCCN1 should be able to complete in 3 days.
After that the time allowed for individual Appliance Assessments varies depending on the number of appliances being undertaken and whether or not some of the criteria for CCN1 can be cross referenced.
As a guide a Re-assessment in CCN1 and 4 Appliances will take no more than 3days while the same assessments as Initial should not take more than 4 days.
It is not compulsory to undertake training before any re-assessment. We do however recommend the two day refresher course as it is the ideal opportunity to bring you up to date with all of the latest changes to the regulations and standards.
As far as Initial ACS assessments are concerned it is part of the pre-requisites that a documented training programme is undertaken.
The pass mark for all ACS Assessment Theory Papers is 100%.
All questions are ‘Open Book’ with the majority being multi-choice. You are allowed three attempts to achieve the 100%. During the practical assessments you are allowed two attempts to demonstrate the required criteria.
If you do not show that you can meet the required ACS Criteria you will be referred for a second attempt. This second attempt can be taken within a maximum period of 31 days and there will be no charge.
The cost of any further assessments or training will be advised at the appropriate time.
At Technical Gas Training we try to start each day at 08.30hrs. We try to complete the day around 16.00hrs as we feel that is long enough to be in a learning and assessment environment. We do take regular tea breaks and usually stop for a 30min lunch break around 12.30hrs.
When you book your course or assessment you will need to pay a deposit of £100.00 plus VAT to secure your place. An invoice for the balance will be sent to you 14 days before your assessment date. All monies must be paid in full before any assessment can be undertaken. Payment can be made either by Cheque, BACS, Debit Card or Credit Card. (We do not accept American Express). If you elect to pay by cheque it must be received by at least 7 working days before your assessment date.
On the day of your assessment you must bring with you your existing Certificates and a means of photo identification. (Driving Licence or Passport). This is extremely important as no assessment can take place without your Assessor verifying this evidence.
At Technical Gas Training we supply all of the tools and equipment that you will require to complete your training and assessments. We also supply all relevant safety equipment with the exception of Safety Boots. It is not a regulation that within the centre workshops you wear safety boots but if you wish to then please feel free to do so. You may bring your own Calculator and Flue Gas Analyser if you wish.
The Car Park for Technical Gas Training is the gravel area immediately opposite the Centre in Telford Road. There is enough room for 12 vehicles providing everybody parks in an orderly manner.
Tea, Coffee and Soft Drinks are provided at regular intervals during the day. A light lunch (Sandwich and Crisps) is provided at lunch times. If you have any dietary requirements please let Rita or Tracy know at the booking stage and we will do our best to accommodate them.
If you have any pre diagnosed condition that might impair your assessment you MUST advise Rita or Tracy at the time of booking your course. You may be asked to provide a letter from your GP to enable us to allow you extra time. For severe cases of Dyslexia we are allowed to provide a reader for your written assessment papers.
If you have any further questions not answered on the website then please do not hesitate to call us.
